Sunday in Nõmme
Who     Liisa (26) and Indrek (29)
Where  Nõmme (Tallinn, Estonia), Sunday, 19th May
What   Leftovers from the fresh green salad with tomato, cucumber, olives, cheese and pickled onions that we prepared the night before to fill our bellies for museum night where we then headed; also rye bread with butter and cheese, the famous chocolate cake called Pealinna kook (means literary "The Cake of the Capital") by Eesti Pagar, and coffee with milk.

If the young lady of the house could have chosen a dream breakfast she would have picked a luxurious fruit salad. The master of the house would have had pancakes, first some salty ones followed up by some sweet ones. Until next time then!

Lauaks oli vana suur veskikivi. / The table was a big old millstone.

On maikuu hommik mereäärse linna vaikses aedlinnas, kus päike piilub männilatvade vahelt alla meie juurde. Selles Nõmme majas, mille kavandas ja ehitas vanaisa ise ja kus tütretütre jaoks valitseb tänini arhitektist papa ja tekstiilikunstnikust mamma vaim, kummitab Liisal mõttes laul "Miki merehädas", mida papa talle lapsena laulis (nagu vist tegid meie paljude teistegi vanaisad ja vanaemad, minu vanaema igatahes küll ka ja mulle meeldis see toona hirmsasti!). Laulavad Artur Rinne ja Stella Helder aastal 1936.

It's a morning in May in the quiet garden city of a town by the sea and the sun is creeping through the tops of the pine trees down to us. In this house in Nõmme (a garden suburb of Tallinn that is known by it's peaceful atmosphere and pine trees) that was designed and built by grandfather himself the spirits of grandpa who was an architect and grandma who was a textile designer are still very present for their granddaughter. Here Liisa is haunted by the tune from the song about Mickey Mouse being a castaway titled "Miki merehädas" that her grandpa used to sing to her when she was a child (as did, I suspect, the grandpas and grandmas of so many of  us, at least my grandma sang that to me as well and I loved it!). Here's the original recording of the song performed by the legendary Estonian singer Artur Rinne and Stella Helder in 1936.
